He’s absolutely not hiding the fact that he would very much like to join his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the Star Wars galaxy, and while their stories are set in different eras of the timeline, Ewan McGregor is making it crystal clear that he believes there are plenty more stories to be told with Obi-Wan Kenobi while he remains in exile on Tatooine, and speaking with Variety he laid out some of those ideas.
“It was very casual, but I said there’s got to be something,” McGregor told Variety about his pitch to Filoni on the set of Ahsoka, which his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars in. “Yoda’s somewhere else. After the end of Episode III’, when we all go to the four or five corners of the galaxy – or however many corners it’s got – I won’t have been in touch with him. But he’s out there. So I think there could be a story there where I’m trying to reach out to him.”
With Hayden Christensen very much back in the spotlight playing the ghost of Anakin Skywalker through World Between World ‘flashbacks’, and his hope that Natalie Portman could return of Padmé, maybe there is room for more from Ewan and Obi-Wan. Let’s hope – as the 50th approaches we need to think beyond the 2027 slate to the future, and often in the Star Wars galaxy that includes a healthy does of tales from the past.
