J.J. Abrams longtime editor Maryann Brandon has been working with footage shot for the ninth and final Skywalker Saga episode for a number of months now, and she believes that the work done to incorporate Carrie Fisher into The Rise of Skywalker will stun audiences.

“I’m really excited for this film because it’s emotional and mature,” she says, admitting she fought back tears a few times while working on certain scenes. “It’s taking Star Wars to a really proper ending for the saga.”

“We were very careful to be respectful and absolutely true to her. She’s beautiful in the film. It’s shockingly successful.”

Working with fellow editor Stefan Grube, Brandon worked on the film from day one, a project that was by that point two months behind schedule due to the departure of Colin Trevorrow.
