Ahead of the 4th May auction of memorabillia from the estate of Dave Prowse, PoPadStudios bring us this look back at when they refurbished the Green Cross Code Droid for Dave.

Master Maker from Podpadstudios reminisces with his Astromech Droid, Zoe, about how we repaired the Green Cross Droid from 1970s TV safety campaign adverts.

Way back in 2014, Ady Davies introduced Master Maker to David Prowse, who then asked Podpadstudios to repair the droid, which had seen better days and had been residing in his shed. As Master Maker said “I opened it up, removed several birds nests…” then he proceeded to rebuild the wooden parts carefully restoring the original components where ever he possibly could.

Radio control and electronic systems were replaced – and Master Maker still has the original handmade speed controller which he shows us in this video and, as he says, it is a “work of art”. He then goes on to tell us what happened when he re-united Mr Prowse with the little Droid, and the formers delight at seeing it working again, after all that time.

This droid has been put up for auction along with many film related items from Dave Prowse’s memorabilia collection, by East Bristol Auction :-https://bid.eastbristol.co.uk/auction…).
Some proceeds will go to Alzheimers Research UK.

Dedicated to David Prowse MBE (1935 – 2020) a goodie who made the world’s best baddie come to life, in Darth Vader. Dave himself regarded the Green Cross Code man as his best work, it taught road safety to a whole generation of kids in the UK, saving countless lives. Gone but never forgotten, rest in peace big man.
