After operating for a far-too-brief 18 months and closing on 30th September 2023, the home port of the Halcyon – aka Galactic Starcruiser – is set to undergo major changes to become the new home of Disney Imagineering. @bioreconstruct are on the case as always, posting images of the site with skips and dumpsters now ready to start work after a permit for ‘General Construction’ was filed on 27th August.

Blog Mickey have also taken a look at the situation, noting that Balfour Beatty, a company Disney often employ for major construction projects, are the team on the ground to work on the site.

Balfour Beatty is the general contractor of note for large projects at Walt Disney World such as the transformation of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Pandora – The World of Avatar, Gran Destino Tower, Disney Lakeshore Lodge, multiple hotel refurbishment projects, and the upcoming Tropical Americas land – to name a few.

In general, anytime Balfour Beatty is attached to a permit, you know they aren’t just replacing a light bulb.

Beyond that, new aerial photos show that construction activity is underway at the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser immersive theater hotel. (T)here are new signs of construction/demolition, such as a number of new dumpsters, portable toilets, and a new site access gate.

Sad times for fans of Lady H and the incredible experience that was Galactic Starcruiser, but hope still springs that there’s a future somewhere down the line for this amazing journey, wherever that might be.
