Returning to UK cinemas 2nd September in glorious IMAX, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is back to charm a new generation of moviegoers, and once again delight the kids of 40 years ago who were charmed the first time round when this all-tie classic spent a record 16 weeks at number one and ultimately grabbed a global box office grand total of $797,048,412 like a handful of Reece’s Pieces.

You may be asking ‘why are Fantha Tracks posting about E.T.?‘ Well, not only does the film feature Oscar winning VFX by ILM, it also boasts an Oscar-scooping score by John Williams, was produced by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, was written by Harrison Fords then wife the late Melissa Mathison, and also featured Ford in an uncredited role.

Oh, and Yoda is in it.

Quite apart from all of that, it was the film that dethroned A New Hope from the number one position on the all-time US domestic list until the 1997 Special Edition returned Star Wars to the summit, a place that has been held for the last seven years by another Kathleen Kennedy production, The Force Awakens.
