Fifty years ago on this very day, Industrial Light & Magic came to life, created to deliver the special effects for 1977’s Star Wars and over the following half century creating visual effects for over 500 films, seven of which sit in the all-time top 10 highest grossing movies and gathering 16 Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, 36 Academy Sci-Tech Awards and 50 Academy Award nominations along the way. No other effects company comes close in vintage, influence, quality or sheer unfiltered magic, so to every person who’s had the slightest hand in bringing that light and magic to the screen, happy 50th anniversary.
