It is with sadness that we today learnt of the passing of John Korty, the director of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure. He was 85.
Lucasfilm reported on the passing of Korty on their Facebook page. Korty died March 9 at his home in Point Reyes Station in Marin County, California.
John Korty, directed the landmark telefilm The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and the renowned documentary Who Are the DeBolts? and Where Did They Get Nineteen Kids? Korty also directed the animated, George Lucas-produced Twice Upon a Time.
Korty formed his own independent studio, Korty Films in Mill Valley, California, and became an inspiration for George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.
Korty won an Emmy for The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1974), an Oscar (documentary) (1977) for Who Are the DeBolts? And Where Did They Get Nineteen Kids?, and an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement – Informational Program (1979) for Who Are the DeBolts? And Where Did They Get Nineteen Kids?
