This weeks episode of The Star Wars Show appears to have confirmed just how far after the events of Revenge of the Sith the forthcoming Disney Plus Obi-Wan Kenobi (or maybe we shouldn’t call it that, maybe by then he’s already known as Ben Kenobi) series will be. Anthony Carboni dropped this knowledge nugget during his usual banter with Andi Gutierrez.
“The untitled series is set eight years after the events of ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and will go into production next year. It’s only set eight years after because that’s how much older he’s gotten in the past 20 years.”
It’s worth remembering that in 1997 when Ewan was 26 he played a 25 year old Kenobi in The Phantom Menace (Ewan was born 31st March 1971, the exact same day as myself). In 2000 he shot Attack of the Clones when he was 29 and Kenobi was 35, and was 32 in 2003 when he filmed Revenge of the Sith playing a 38 year old Kenobi. The new Kenobi series is placed 8 years after Sith, meaning Ben will be 46 and Ewan 49 if – as anticipated – he films the show next year, making him only 3 years older than the character. If you bear in mind that Ewan usually plays an older Kenobi than his own age, the new show brings him as close to the ‘right’ age as he has been since 1997 when he filmed Phantom.
