So, about Anthony Daniels being in Solo: A Star Wars Story

BEWARE, POTENTIAL SPOILER: It’s one of the coolest hot streaks in cinema history, Anthony Daniels being in every single Star Wars movie since 1977 (as well as being heard in practically every TV show as well) which continues with an appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

He pulled double-duty in Attack of the Clones as Dannl Faytonni and Threepio, and again we will be seeing Daniels in Solo….but not as Threepio.

Mike Ryan from Uproxx sat down with Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan to talk about the film. The involvement of Daniels – specifically as Threepio – was brought up.

“No, but Anthony Daniels is in the movie as a different character

“In the Papillon type offshoot story, the Wookiee that helps them escape, Chewbacca’s best friend, is played by Anthony Daniels – and beckons him to join them as they escape on a different ship.”

So, a first for a Star Wars live-action movie (apart from the Ewok movies of course) – no See Threepio. Lawrence Kasdan is well aware of this.

“There are a lot of things about this movie that are different from all the others.”

So the chance to fold in the droids wandering adventures across the galaxy between Revenge of the Sith and Rebels seems to have been passed up, but as we learn every time an old-school reference comes into the canon (and Solo is PACKED with them) we learn to never say never.
