It’s not there yet, we’ve still got a few parsecs to go, but it looks like Solo: A Star Wars Story is fighting off the competition and homing in on a much-deserved Oscar nomination. Whittling down the entrants from 20 competitors to 10, the second standalone film is in a strong field of fellow (potential) VFX nominees, all aiming to be in the final five come January 5th 2019.
Six of the 10 films listed feature ILM VFX, so best of luck as always to the various teams involved.
VISUAL EFFECTS
Ten films remain in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 91st Academy Awards. The Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the shortlist. All members of the Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the shortlisted films on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate five films for final Oscar consideration. The films, listed in alphabetical order by title, are:“Ant-Man and the Wasp”
