Taika Waititi, like so many high profile producers these days, is spinning numerous plates and his latest project is a reunion with long-time collaborator Rhys Darby.

Because he’s not already busy with several films (including Marvel’s Thor: Love And Thunder) and TV series, Taika Waititi is also part of the team putting together new historical comedy/pirate adventure Our Flag Means Death. For the lead in the show, Waititi is reuniting with one of his regular collaborators, Rhys Darby.

Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the story of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a well-to-do gentleman farmer and child of wealth who suffers a midlife crisis and becomes captain of Revenge, a pirate ship in the early 18th century.

The series, will will screen in the States on HBO Max, was created by David Jenkins, who will run the show alongside writer Garrett Basch and producer Dan Halstead. Waititi will act as executive producer and direct the pilot.
