Skeleton Crew is edging closer and closer by the day, and the promotional push is starting to ramp up, with action figure reveals at New York Comic Con and interviews starting to hit the major entertainment sites and magazines. The forthcoming issue of Empire features a roundtable that includes director David Lowery, and he wanted to make it very clear that the upcoming show will feature a lot of puppets, including yet another easter egg from the Ewok movies.

“I was most excited about having hand puppets on set. It’s the most ancient technology being used with the most cutting-edge technology, simultaneously. That combination was absolutely magical. There’s a character in my episode that’s […] the Teek, from Battle For Endor. And it’s just a little hand puppet! It’s just (wiggles hand). I was like, ‘Is he gonna get digitally touched up, or replaced?’ No, in the final episode it’s just a hand puppet in the middle of this crazy Volume set. The cognitive dissonance of seeing those two things together, live in front of you, is absolutely incredible.”

The Ewok movies have managed to sneak a few elements into the wider canonical galaxy, including the blurrgs in The Mandalorian, and don’t forget the animated portion of The Star Wars Holiday Special which saw the Amban rifle used by Din Djarin.

Stay tuned to Making Tracks, the site and our socials as we cover the lead up to the show, returning with a new seasons of Making Tracks: Reaction Chat, discuss the weeks episodes every Sunday night at 9.00pm UK time on Good Morning Tatooine, see the return of our episode guides and – fingers crossed – chat with members of the cast and crew of the show.
