Despite merciless review bombing which has the show at 91% with critics and only 27% with viewers, The Acolyte showed those numbers to be laughably inaccurate by delivering a single day viewing number of 4.8 million, making the High Republic era show the largest premier for Disney Plus in 2024.

“The Acolyte,” Disney+‘s newest Star Wars series, reached 4.8 million views in its first day of availability. This marks the streamer’s biggest series premiere of 2024, according to Disney.

An exact first-day viewership total isn’t available for “Ahsoka,” the most recent Star Wars series, though Disney did report that it took five days to reach 14 million views. That comes out to an average of 2.8 million viewers per day — 2 million below the launch of “The Acolyte.” (Note: a “view” is calculated by dividing the number of hours each title is watched by its runtime.)

According to Just Watch, the numbers here in the UK have been solid, placing the show at number 7 for the week behind Netflix, Prime and Sky shows (all with far larger subscriptions bases) and only The Veil from Disney Plus coming ahead of it in 4th position.

Impressive numbers, and while the review bombs continue it’s showing in the numbers that the figures care little whether those tuning in are positive or negative – either way, people are watching The Acolyte. Naturally, next weeks numbers will go a long way towards determining whether or not the show has caught the imagination of the broader viewing public.
