While not a Lucasfilm production, The Dark Crystal is a hugely important movie in the family of Star Wars related films. Produced by Gary Kurtz and co-directed by Frank Oz, many of the creature performers went on to work on Return of the Jedi, and the techniques and performances within would be a huge influence on the current crop of Star Wars productions.

From Fathom Events, here’s all the info you need on the return of The Dark Crystal.

Jim Henson’s 1982 epic fantasy-adventure The Dark Crystal is already a hit among cinema audiences, with high ticket sales leading to two additional show dates on March 3 and 6, in addition to the February 25 and 28 screening dates. Approximately 200 theater locations are also being added across all dates, with the total count nearing 700 cinemas nationwide.

Each screening of “The Dark Crystal,” presented by Fathom Events, The Jim Henson Company and Universal Pictures, will include a brand-new featurette with Lisa Henson, CEO and President of The Jim Henson Company, who reflects on the making of this one-of-a-kind film and its creative legacy.

A milestone in fantasy filmmaking, “The Dark Crystal” was co-directed with Frank Oz (Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and produced by Gary Kurtz (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back). Following its four-day theatrical presentation, “The Dark Crystal” will debut on 4K Ultra HD™ and return to Blu-ray™ and digital on March 6 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
