Our buddy Din from F-105 has dropped us the press release for their debut single Rebel Girl / Desert Planet.

Over to the F-105 guys!

F-105 are vocalist Din, guitarist Marc Merilainen and drummer Alex Mine. The Toronto indie rock band has released their first (two song) single off their upcoming debut self-titled album. The band also released their second official video, ‘Desert Planet’, which is a stylistic follow up to their first official video, ‘Rebel Girl’.

Both videos celebrate F-105’s inspiration and influence from Star Wars. Rebel Girl received wide coverage and acclaim from both fandom and critics, with play and interviews on a wide variety of popular Star Wars podcasts.

‘Rebel Girl’ will also make it debut soon on Canadian national radio, on the CBC show The Next Chapter. The 9 song album (due July 2018) was a 2 year recording journey for the band. It continues to combine mythic archetypes and hero’s journey themes, in songs like ‘Rebel Girl’ and ‘Desert Planet,’ along with an exploration of Canadian mythology and storytelling, in songs like ‘No Man’s Land’ and ‘Viljo & Elsa’. The latter song, and others like ‘October 1st’ and ‘Mileage’, push their alternative rock sound into new skies with the use of the Finnish stringed Kantele instrument.

F-105 is planning summer 2018 tour dates in support of the album.

“It’s a great song (Rebel Girl)! Love the harmonies and the bass beat!”
THERESA DELGADO, Fangirls Going Rogue

‘Desert Planet has been stuck in my head all day. Great song!’
RICHARD WOLOSKI, Skywalking Through Neverland

“I love Rebel Girl! The bass line is awesome, I couldn’t stop tapping my feet!”
DAN ZEHR, Coffee With Kenobi

“Loved Rebel Girl, and the timely message of the chorus. Really dug the bass line, the octave vocals, and that keyboard solo – total Ray Manzarek vibe (Break on Through, yeah!). The 80s alt/60s acid vibe fits the rebellious spirit nicely.”
DAVID W. COLLINS, The Soundtrack Show / Star Wars Celebration host

“F105 is exactly what you’d expect from a band who’s stolen their name from the most mysterious elements of Canadian aerospace myth and legend [The CF-105 Avro Arrow]. Just like its namesake, F105 brings the listener on a journey that is sleek in design, cutting the edge of all sonic barriers before them and landing the listener in the heart of every matter they’ve put to tape, track after track. One part geek-dom, one part pop rock and one part solid musicianship, equate to a band and album that push the listener into the stratosphere of the new can-pop-rock landscape. Be one of the first to jump aboard!”
STEVE KRAUS, DJ CKLU 96.7FM Sudbury Ontario

Allow me to add my own thoughts on the single.

“Desert Planet is as infectious as the Rakghoul virus. I’m betting that by the end of 2018, F-105 are like Tatooine sand and get everywhere.”
