While you could be forgiven for believing that Hunter College in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was created specifically for the film much like Marshall College was for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, that’s not the case. While waiting for our ride back to the hotel from New York Comic Con we spotted an old building covered in scaffolding and spotted the sign above the door – Hunter College. That rang a bell, and a quick Google search confirmed it’s the same institution that Professor Henry Jones Jr taught at from 1959 to 1969. Hunter has a number of campuses and buildings across the city, but it was a pleasant surprise to see how close we were to an Indiana Jones location.
Having moved on from his position as associate Dean of Bedford’s Marshall College after 1957, Indiana Jones took a job at Hunter College in Manhattan around 1959.
In 1969, the professor had reached retirement and was surprised with a party thrown by his colleagues who gifted him with a clock. It was around that time that he was sought out by his goddaughter Helena who wanted his help in acquiring an unusual device which Jones and her father Basil Shaw had come across during the war.
As you can see, we were pretty stoked to find it.
