What Have We Here?: Portraits of A Life arrived in bookstores today, and speaking with People magazine Billy Dee Williams wanted to set the record straight regarding a number of experiences including an encounter with Hollywood legend Marlon Brando, who hit on Williams during a party at Brando’s home. Billy Dee refused for a very simple reason – “I prefer women“.
“I’m thinking about legacy at this stage, 86 years old going on 87, so I figured maybe I need to talk about a few things that might interest a few people. I’ve had a lot of very interesting experiences throughout the years. I’ve been getting hit on all my life. Gay, straight, whatever, somebody’s always hitting on me.
“I’ve spent a lot of my life around gay people. James Baldwin, who was gay, was my dearest friend. I had no qualms with that kind of stuff. Whatever you are, that’s who you are. I’m more interested in meeting interesting people.”
