BEWARE SPOILERS: During Celebration, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series had its premiere with its first two episodes shown. Just like with the previous Disney Plus series, we at Fantha Tracks will be offering our own episode guide for your entertainment! Here we will post every reference, Easter egg, everything named and unnamed per episode and some fun trivia in-between that we have spotted.

Part 3

Official summary: Obi-Wan searches for allies.

Trivia

During the reconstruction of Darth Vader’s suit it is interesting to note that it appears somewhat different from Revenge Of The Sith. The helmet is brought down as one piece, rather than the face covering followed by the top part of the helmet. It also features the original red eye lenses as seen in A New HopeRebels and Rogue One.

While all the Jedi have some sort of technical skills, having Obi-Wan repair Lola (full name: L0-LA59) is another allusion to Anakin, who is more known for his tinkering. There are many allusions hidden throughout the episodes, some more subtle than others, to reinforce the idea that Anakin is always present for Obi-Wan and that his former master has not been able to let it go, as Bail advised Obi-Wan to do.

Also during this is Leia telling him to speed up the ship by using the Force and Obi-Wan responds with this is not how it works. This echoes Han’s line in The Force Awakens to Finn as he tells the former stormtrooper “that’s not how the Force works…”. And with Obi-Wan explaining the Force to Leia, he now instructed both of Anakin’s children with their first lessons into the Force, as he explained it to Luke in A New Hope.

A loadlifter droid, like HURID-327, can be seen on Mapuzo.

Reva arrives at Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur, first seen in the game Jedi: Fallen Order and making here its live-action debut. In Legends continuity a similar place existed on Prakith called Citadel Inquisitorius. This was mostly seen and used for RPG adventures.

Here we see also the classic TIE Fighter and Lambda-class T-4a shuttle, but also the troop transports first seen in The Mandalorian.

The Viper probe droids that get launched are in their, originally for The Empire Strikes Back designed, hyperspace pods. ‘The Making of The Empire Strikes Back’ shows a good image of this hyperspace pod.

Freck is a new character and alien species. He was portrayed in costume by John Rosengrant (who did many other characters like Gor Koresh in The Mandalorian and Mok Shaiz in The Book of Boba Fett) and voiced by Zach Braff, who has not appeared in Star Wars before.

The stormtroopers are talking about checking out the T-16, which is another reference in a long line that started with A New Hope’s “Have you seen that new VT-16?”. These references have expanded to include T-15 (Solo and Rogue One), T-17 (the game Jedi Outcast and The Force Awakens) and T-18 (The Rise Of Skywalker).

Obi-Wan tells about what little glimpses he remembers of his mother and father before being taken to the Jedi. He also says that he thinks he had a brother. Originally, and this still can be seen in the novelization of Return Of The Jedi, Obi-Wan was the brother of Owen Lars. The Legends novel ‘Jedi Apprentice: The Hidden Past’ also mentions Obi-Wan remembering his brother Owen.

Vintrium is a type of mineral first used in ‘Star Wars Galaxies’.

A Zeta-class Heavy Cargo Shuttle, first seen in Rogue One, can be seen leaving from the Mapuzo mining village.

As Tala Durith (played by Indira Varma, known for playing Ellaria Sand in Game Of Thrones and Niobi in Rome) enters the droid maintenance building to see if it is safe, you can spot a long-necked alien. This alien design was meant for The Rise Of Skywalker, and while it was filmed it ended up cut from the movie. Besides a brief appearance in the comic ‘Bounty Hunters’ #6, it was not seen until this episode.

Despite them calling the droid NED-B, the Aurebesh on his chest actually reads NED-W.

Remember how in Part II we had a reference to Corran Horn and his mother? If not, reread our Episode Guide here. In Part III we actually had a reference to Corran’s father Hal Horn, who was born as Valin Halcyon. It is this latter name of him that appears on the wall that is part of The Path, a route that the Jedi use to travel to safety after Order 66.

The Quinlan that is mentioned to bring Younglings to safety by frequently using The Path is of course Quinlan Vos. You probably know him by now, but just in case: he is a Jedi who was based on an extra in The Phantom Menace, who grew into a fan favourite thanks to the ‘Republic’ comics, almost ended up in Revenge Of The Sith (beyond getting a mention) and was seen at last in The Clone Wars. This is the confirmation that he is still out there as a survivor.

On the wall of Jedi survivors two names from the Legends novel ‘Children of the Jedi’ can be seen. Djinn Altis (who has since appeared in various Legends novels) and Roganda Ismaren, who was one of the Emperor’s concubines and also a character that appeared a lot in other works since.

The planet Jabiim where the Jedi get their new identities is also a reference to Legends, namely the ‘Republic’ comics #55 till #58. The Battle of Jabiim was notable as it appeared for a long time to the Jedi that Obi-Wan was killed in action, prompting for Ki-Adi-Mundi to take Anakin as his Padawan.

The first rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader seem to include some small nods to previous fights of Darth Vader. It starts with Obi-Wan slowing down as he sees Darth Vader in his path, which he did in A New Hope as well. Then we have Darth Vader striking from off-screen and getting hit/distracted by steam, as happened in the duel between Vader and Luke in The Empire Strikes Back. Darth Vader also does a quick head-turn, which he also did in Return Of The Jedi.

When Darth Vader says “I am what you made me”, it is not just James Earl Jones saying the line. It is mixed in with Hayden Christensen saying it also. This mixing of James Earl Jones’s Darth Vader voice with an Anakin voice has happened before. In Rebels it was Matt Lanter’s voice that got combined into it, when Darth Vader’s mask got broken in that epic duel with Ahsoka.
