General. Senator. Princess. Rebel. Feminist icon. Leia Organa is a legendary Star Wars symbol of what it means to stand up for yourself and fight for what you believe in – no matter the personal cost. As the figurehead of the Rebellion and Resistance, and a prime example of an individual succeeding in a tyrannical workplace, Leia’s name is synonymous with courage, grit and conviction. Whether she is refusing to comply with Darth Vader’s demands, evading the wrathful clutches of the Empire or rescuing her friends from the Death Star, Leia is not afraid to challenge those in positions of authority and power. Filled with inspiring advice from Leia and other heroes – Rey, Padmé, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Jyn and many more – this book provides thoughtful and funny reflections on independence, staying true to yourself and challenging the status quo.
The perfect gift for a Star Wars fan, Star Wars: Be More Leia is a humorous guide to rebellion, leadership and activism, featuring iconic moments from the Star Wars movies alongside key advice for life.

To be more Leia, one must initially at least be some Leia, and if you think about it we all are. Leia encompassed all emotions, positive and negative – empathy, anger, determination, annoyance, leadership, teamwork, you name it she displayed it in the films, TV shows, comics or books, and while Christian Blauvelt’s Be More Leia opts to focus on the positive aspects of her personality it makes no bones of pointing out that Leia was a complicated woman on a mission to rid the galaxy of tyranny. How she did that forms the basis of this smashing little book.
As with Be More Vader and Be More Yoda, the book is broken down into sections. Defining Your Goals asks you to set your targets and gives Organa-like advice on how to make it happen, by determining what those goals are and being focused enough to see them through. Taking The First Steps urges you to be proactive and make these things happen, while Forging Your Own Path tells you to do things your own way and trust your instincts, something Leia did with aplomb.
Building a Community highlights the power of teamwork, and how Leia built strong teams to accomplish the many tasks that lay ahead, while Leading With Confidence shows just why she was the perfect torchbearer for the Rebellion and later the Resistance; someone who could be inspirational, use her upbringing and knowledge to good effect, never ask someone to do something she wasn’t prepared to do herself but also have the leadership stomach to ask those under her command to make the ultimate sacrifice.
While it’s a book predominantly focusing on Leia, there are also plenty of quotes from characters across the saga. People like Leia’s mother Padme, and inspirational hero of the Rebellion Jyn Erso as well as her brother Luke and wise Jedi masters Yoda and Obi-Wan. It keeps the book clicking along, showing how Leia soaked up all the teachings of wise people around her – imagine how empowered Leia would have felt heading into Yavin after the actions of the Rogue One team at Scarif – and transferred that into actionable knowledge she could pay forward to fellow rebels.
Once again Christian Blauvelt has brought us a charming book, beautifully presented in a tidy format that not only looks attractive on the bookshelf but is an easy grab for kids and a logical stocking filler for birthdays and Christmas. As a character to focus upon in a book such as this Leia is a great choice; the princess who could, teaching us not the ways of the Force but the lessons of life.
