Speaking at last nights 2018 Rakuten TV Empire Awards, Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman both indicated that work on Johnson’s new Star Wars trilogy has begun, albeit in its earliest stages.

Bergman explained the trilogy’s current status.

“We’ve started. Slowly, slowly, but we’ve started. Hopefully soon we’re going to get busier.”

And later on the red carpet Johnson was even more succinct, stating that they had to

“figure out what it’s going to be.”

It’s not as if we’re short on Star Wars projects. With Solo, the first of the new animated series, Episode IX, the film series from the producers of Game of Thrones, the live action series by Jon Favreau and more in the pipeline, there’s no need to rush this trilogy. More news as it comes in.
