Saturday saw Golden Orbit’s regular Comic & Film Fair return to Nottingham’s Mercure Hotel for the Nottingham Comic & Film Fair. Golden Orbit run regular shows throughout the year in the Midlands and North of England. Events are held at Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, and Sheffield, and on Saturday I attended the show in Nottingham.

A small but friendly and intimate show, with stalls primarily selling comics and from Marvel, DC and various independents, but also a selection of other Sci-Fi and film related merchandise. You can chat to the dealers and other attendees while flipping through the comic boxes. I was looking to fill some holes in my Dark Horse Star Wars collection, and while there was a good selection of Dark Horse Star Wars issues there was nothing I needed.

The next show in Nottingham is 22nd September. See www.goldenorbit.co.uk for more information and dates in other cities.

Matt’s fandom continued to grow even more with the Star Wars resurgence of the 90’s. Reading the Expanded Universe and West End Games supplements, playing the LucasArts computer games and being active in fan groups and forums since the early days of the Internet. Matt began to write his own Star Wars reference books and character guides. Today his collecting focus is on Star Wars literature and items from the 90’s.
