How Not to Get Eaten by Ewoks (and Other Galactic Survival Skills)

The Star Wars galaxy is a dangerous place. From ruthless bounty hunters, ferocious beasts, and extreme weather, to hostile landscapes, social minefields, and backstabbing allies-perils and hazards are never far away! How do you flee an exploding Death Star? What’s the best way to source a starship at a spaceport? How would you escape kidnap by Tusken Raiders on Tatooine? Survival means keeping your wits about you. This fun, practical Star Wars book will teach you how to recognise threats and learn what to do to stay alive in a galaxy far, far away.

Explore the methods used by your favorite Star Wars movie characters to escape sticky situations, with this handy manual. DK’s How Not to Get Eaten by Ewoks will help you to navigate galactic pitfalls, whether you’re learning how to avoid offending aliens of other species, or trying to find food and shelter in emergency situations. Author: Christian Blauvelt

Pages: 128
ISBN: 9780241331330

It’s a big, bad universe out there and for the more innocent traveller, this guide to the galaxy by author Christian Blauvelt could be considered essential. Indeed, How Not to Get Eaten by Ewoks (and Other Galactic Survival Skills) could be the book that saves your life….if the threat of death at the furry hands of an Endorian biped is imminent.

Broken down into 6 clear categories, the book takes you through Dangerous Environments, Dangers of Travel, Hazards of Technology, Social Minefields, Escape, Evasion and Infiltration and Dangerous Creatures. They may seem obvious topics, but the galaxy never promised to be nice to those travelling through it, and when there are thousands upon thousands of habitable worlds in the Star Wars galaxy, travellers can’t be expected to remember every potential pitfall, social foible and meat-hungry plant in the galaxy.

The layout of the book is pleasing to the eye, combining images from the films along with bespoke artwork to highlight the various perils and pitfalls in question. Travelling to Vandor? Your pitfalls are altitude sickness, avalanches, kod’ yok stampedes and falling from height. You can learn how to survive a crash landing, navigate the many issues surrounding industrial perils (free tip, carbon freezing is to be largely avoided) and working with droids (assassin droids – steer well clear).

It’s also full of handy information and statistics. Did you know a wampa was 9 feet ten inches tall? Or that a sarlacc burrows up to 328 feet down and is distantly related to the rathtar? The book – designed to be a handy old-school paperback (or for the older UK readers the Ladybird series) sized release and will fit neatly next to your intergalactic passport and P-48 Type 3 blaster as you sneak your way through customs.

Blauvelt has good form with books like this, having recently released Be More Yoda and Be More Vader, so hats off to DK for giving him even more projects to oversee. This is a format that could run and run, clearly designed to be a birthday or festive stocking filler, so expect it to sell in healthy numbers and be ready for more similar books from DK.
