First of all, let’s get it straight: skipping classes is bad. But most students do it anyway because nobody’s perfect. Sometimes you’re too tired, or just not in the mood, or you’ve slept too long and don’t want to come in late during the lecture… It’s natural, and it happens.
Still, it’s important to understand a few things about playing truant:
- in college or university, be aware of the cost of each class. You probably wouldn’t want to skip once you do the math;
- keep track of your attendance and don’t skip too often – otherwise, you might have serious problems;
- missing classes doesn’t mean you can also neglect your homework!
However, if you still decide to skip a class, you can at least use the time saved in this manner to your benefit. Read on, and we’ll teach you how! Below are a few of our favorite ideas.
Finish Your Homework
This one might not look too exciting, but it’s one of the best ways you can take advantage of your spare time when you skip classes. So, if you have an essay waiting to be edited or any other assignment that you couldn’t get your hands on for a while, – you know what to do.
However, if you’re playing truant because you’re fed up with studying and need a break, doing homework might not be a great idea. In this case, delegate whatever you can to whoever can handle it – like the essay editors from a professional service who can polish your essay for you. Then, make use of some of our other suggestions!
Sleep
The most obvious one of them is to use your time to catch up on sleep. Most students don’t get enough sleep which results in them feeling constantly tired… So, if you’ve already slept through the beginning of a lecture, you can as well spend the rest of it in bed, too.
Go for a Walk
One more activity students don’t usually get enough of is walking in the fresh air. Meanwhile, this is also crucial for any person’s well-being and productivity. So, don’t hesitate to stroll to the nearby park or any other nice place outdoors, and just spend an hour or so breathing the fresh air and enjoying the landscapes.
It’s also a good idea to take an audiobook with you and listen to something that you truly enjoy. If you prefer sitting on a bench rather than walking, an ebook will also do.
Go to a Library
If you need something specific for your research, you might want to spend some time in a library – especially if the weather is not good enough to go for long walks. Most students usually hate spending time in libraries, but as it’s sometimes inevitable, then better to do it during classes than in your free time!
However, you risk meeting some of your professors or fellow students if you go to the library at your college or university. So, be careful to sit in the farthest corner and be as inconspicuous as possible!
Visit a Museum
If you like art (or even if you don’t), museums are the perfect places to skip classes at. If you go there, you’ll be able to say in all honesty that you’ve not been fooling around because museums are where we learn a lot, too.
In fact, museums are indispensable sources of knowledge and inspiration. So, your professor probably won’t even mind it if you choose to skip his or her classes this way!
Go to the Cinema
Skipping classes at the cinema is classic. Students have done it since public cinemas emerged and they will undoubtedly continue doing so till cinemas cease to exist.
However, there’s nothing bad in that at all! Many famous directors, actors, and writers have done exactly the same – went to the movies instead of attending their classes. As we can see now, it has only done them good.
Earn Some Money
While most jobs are very time-consuming, there are some that can be done rather fast. So, if there’s something you can do during classes (which you’ve anyway decided to skip) to earn some cash – go for it.
For example, you can sit with your neighbor’s child or walk a dog, deliver goods or run some other errands. But be careful to plan your time so that you won’t miss more lectures than you’ve planned to!
Cook Some Food
Everyone needs to eat. Therefore, there’s no way you can avoid spending time on cooking (unless you only live on snacks and pizza, but we strongly advise against it). Then, why not prepare something while you have some time during the day?
Write a Business Plan
Many students think of trying entrepreneurship, but few really do something to make their dreams come true. So, if you’re one of those who always keep postponing the realization of your ideas, you can use the time spared to finally sit down and write that business plan of yours.
However, if you do that, be ready to hone your time-management skills before you get things going. Business requires a lot of time, and it’s essential to know how to plan it in order to succeed.
Write a Resume
Not ready to start a business yet? Then maybe it’s time to find or change a job! To do that, you’ll need a great resume, and what better time to finally paper writer it than during some boring class you don’t want to attend?
Conclusion
While skipping classes is not encouraged in general, most students do it anyway. And it might not be such a bad thing after all – but only if they spend the time spared productively. If you want to learn how to do it, too – use our 10 tips listed above!
