Bill Rosemann is the Marvels Game VP and Creative Director. In an interview with Marvel.com, Bill explained how Harry became a venom.
“The idea of Harry ending up a venom came up during the first game. From his relationship with Otto, we asked ourselves what their feelings were. We thought about what happened to them growing up—the underlying motivation behind their actions.
In the first game, Harry and Otto unleashed Mister Negative powers. So, we wanted our story to focus more on the villains as much as it did on our heroes. The first thing we did was understand their motivation. Why were they doing it?
While we disagreed with their actions, Harry’s driving force wasn’t “I’m evil, or I want to mess with people.” The true motivation was the larger goal. We created possibilities from the scene where Harry is in Europe and leaving messages for Peter. What if he wasn’t in Europe?
When we decided to tell the Venom story we had teased, we didn’t think twice. We decided it would be Harry; at least, it would spike up emotions in Peter and Harry. The hero will be dying to defeat the villain but feel bad because it is someone he knows.”
