Attending the exclusive ILM 50th anniversary gathering last month, Darryl from Star Wars 100 Interviews managed to capture some incredibly special moments, celebrating the work done half a century ago by members of the original ILM team, as well as cursating a number of interviews that we shall see over the coming months. For now, head to Star Wars 100 Interviews and watch their video showing some of the content from this amazing event.

This exclusive six-minute highlight package captures the historic gathering at the Industrial Light & Magic 50th Anniversary Reunion, held on the authentic grounds of the original Van Nuys warehouse facility at 6842 Valjean Avenue.

While the official corporate entity of ILM was established on paper by George Lucas on May 26, 1975, it was in 1976 that the empty, un-airconditioned building truly came alive. This event honored exactly fifty years since that legendary crew of model makers, optical engineers, and artists first gathered in the Valley to turn a blue-collar “light industrial” warehouse into the birthplace of modern visual effects.

The video features opening introductions from event organizer Rose Duignan, followed by speeches from key pioneers who built the foundation of the company: John Dykstra, Richard Edlund, and Dennis Muren.

The highlights also include a brief, rare interaction with the camera-shy Joe Johnston, alongside footage from exclusive home interview sessions with Dave Carson and Dennis Muren, as well as model shop legend Lorne Peterson.

This footage represents just a fraction of the deep-dive archive compiled for this project. Over a two-week period in the United States, twelve extensive, one-on-one, broadcast-quality interviews were filmed with the original cast and crew who lived the day-to-day grind of the 1976 Van Nuys production. More names and full interview segments from this exclusive historical archive will be released soon.
