In this auction that includes a pair of items from the collection of Starlog creator Norman Jacobs that will grab the attention of ILM fans and followers of all things Gary Kurtz as an executive gift and an ILM made snowspeeder are in the auction with bids for the droids starting at $20,000 and the airspeeder at $8,000.
A selection of props, blueprints, and rare models from the iconic Star Wars franchise is highlighted by the collection of Norman Jacobs, creator of the landmark Pop Culture/Science Fiction magazine Starlog. Included in Jacobs’ collection is a rare crew gift from Star Wars VI: A New Hope presented to Gary Kurtz, producer of the first Star Wars movie – a miniature model of C-3PO and R2-D2 made by Industrial Light and Magic. Never before seen at auction, this pair of models is estimated at $20,000 – 30,000. Also included is Kurtz’s ILM-made model of a T-47 Airspeeder, estimated at $8,000 – 12,000.

Gary Kurtz “C-3PO” and “R2-D2” Executive Gift from Star Wars: Episode VI – A New Hope.
20th Century-Fox, 1977.
Original rare Industrial Light & Magic-made Executive gift featuring static display figures of “R2-D2” and “C-3PO” affixed to a black plexiglass base. Figures constructed of cast resin, tooled aluminum, and mixed-media components, expertly assembled, painted, and finished by the wizards at ILM.
This meticulously detailed display was presented at the time of production to Star Wars Producer Gary Kurtz who then gifted it to his talented assistant and sister-in-law, Bunny Alsop. The late Alsop was a fixture in the early days of Lucasfilm Ltd. and worked with Kurtz on both Star Wars: Episode VI – A New Hope and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.
In 1994, Alsop sold the crew gift to Starlog magazine co-creator Norman Jacobs.
“C-3PO” measures 10 x 5 x 5 in. and “R2-D2” measures 6.5 x 4.5 x 3.5 in. When sealed in the plexiglass box the entire display piece measures. 12.75 x 10.75 x 6.5 in. Exhibiting minor age and handling.
