Smyths Toys: UK sales pass half a billion Euro for first time

Amazing news for Smyths Toys as the changing landscape of the UK 2018 toy industry sees the 11 year old company pass half a billion Euros in sales for the very first time. Toy News take a look at what has to be the UK success story of the year.

New figures show that the family-owned Irish retailer enjoyed strong growth in 2017 in the UK as sales surged by 11 per cent to a record £475.7 million or €534.5 million.

Pre-tax profits increased by 18 per cent, going up from £10.1 million to £11.88 million, boosted by popular toys like LEGO and Shopkins.

Earlier this year, Smyths Toys purchased the Toys R Us business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The €79 million deal adds a further 90 stores to the Smyths Toys group, bringing the total to around 200 in Ireland, the UK and Europe.
