One of the unexpected joys of the Lucas Museum won’t be seeing work from the worlds of George Lucas that we’re familiar with – although obviously that’s the attraction that will bring many of us to its doors in Los Angeles from 22nd September when the LMNA opens to the public – but beyond that, a wider appreciation of Americana, narrative art and here the world of comic books, something Lucas had a very tangible interest in back in the 70’s when he co-owned Supersnipe in downtown New York city with the late Ed Summers.
As we celebrate the world of the squared circle and Wrestlemania 42, take a look at art from Rafael Navarro’s comic book Sonámbulo: Sleep of the Just, as it’s skillfully framed for display in the museum.
2026 marks the 30th anniversary since the release of Rafael Navarro’s comic book Sonámbulo: Sleep of the Just, featuring a fusion of hardboiled noir elements and Mexican lucha libre wrestlers. In this thrilling addition to his story, Sonámbulo has been framed— but this time it’s for the Lucas Museum. 😉
