Disney Parks continuously strive to innovate and bring new experiences to fans across the globe, and with a property like Star Wars being so packed with incredible tech, innovations are required to bring those things to life. Here, the Wall Street Journal look at those advances, including the incredible lightsaber designed by National Inventors Hall of Fame recipient Lanny Smoot which ignited at the end of the two-day voyage aboard the Halcyon aka Galactic Starcruiser and the amazing holotile system.

Disney’s most prolific inventor, Lanny Smoot, is behind some of the company’s most advanced tech, from “Star Wars” lightsabers to “magic” floors. Disney’s long-secretive R&D lab helps build creations that are crucial to Disney’s $60 billion investment in the division that includes its theme parks.

Smoot gives WSJ a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process and the technology that could make the next must-see attraction for Disney parks.
