Interesting news for fans of the mostly retired Jim Carrey and those who wondered what Colin Trevorrow (the almost director of Episode IX) would do next, it’s looking like both could possibly team up for a live action adaptation of The Jetsons, the animated classic from the 60’s similar to The Flintstones that featured a nuclear family in a far-flung future. No news on who else is involved other than co-writer Joe Epstein, but good to see Carrey returning back to the big screen and Trevorrow back in big budget tentpoles after his Jurassic adventures.

Jim Carrey is in talks to lead a live-action “The Jetsons” movie with Colin Trevorrow in talks to to direct the project at Warner Bros. Pictures, TheWrap has exclusively learned. It’s early days on the project and no deals are currently in place.

Trevorrow and Joe Epstein are in also in talks to write the script.

“The Jetsons” was a classic 1960s Hanna-Barbera animated series that centered on married couple George and Jane Jetson, their kids Judy and Elroy, dog Astro and robot maid Rosie.

Starring George O’Hanlon, Janet Waldo, Mel Blanc, Penny Singleton, Daws Butler, Don Messick, Jean Vander Pyl, Frank Welker and Howard Morris, “The Jetsons” initially ran from 1962-1963 before it was revived in 1985 for 51 more episodes.

While he didn’t bring us his version of Episode IX he did design the TIE Echelon that’s seen at Galaxy’s Edge, so we do have some Trevorrow design DNA very present in the Star Wars galaxy.
