Speaking earlier this week at Deloitte’s Media & Telecoms 2024 and Beyond Conference, Disney’s EMEA president Jan Koeppen reaffirmed Disney’s position on UK productions, underlinging their “long and deep connection” with the UK film industry. That investment has supported 32,000 jobs and given 300 trainees their first openings in the industry.

During a presentation screened before his speech, it was revealed that Disney has spent £3.5bn on UK production over the last five years. That sum included 29 feature films and 41 shows for Disney+ along with 90 titles for Nat Geo.

“Disney has been producing content here in the UK for a long time – almost 75 years in fact,” he said and added ““Our long and deep connection with the UK is something that we’re very proud of – contributing to the economy, creating jobs, opportunities, skills and partnering with the wider industry.”

Let’s hope, with The Acolyte having the biggest opening on Disney Plus for any show this year so far that the commitment made by Disney holds, and more seasons of TV and film continue to come to Pinewood, Shinfield and other UK studios and locations.
