In association with the venerable Radio Times, Classic FM put out the call to the public to vote for their favourite movie theme, and after Lord of the Rings topped the chart the last time the poll was conducted, Schindler’s List by the maestro John Williams has nabbed the top spot in the Classic FM Movie Music Hall of Fame, with 5 other Williams compositions littering the top 20 and 15 in total in the top 100.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to the listeners of Classic FM for selecting my music from Schindler’s List for this high honour. It was a privilege to be involved in the making of this film, and it’s very gratifying to know that so many people around the world continue to embrace it after nearly 30 years.”

There are entries in the top 100 for John Powell (How To Train Your Dragon) and Michael Giacchino (Up) but sadly not for the best film never to be nominated for an Oscar because of an admin error Solo or the magnificent Rogue One. One has to assume that the entry for Star Wars encompasses all 9 of William’s scores in the series – how else could his score for The Empire Strikes Back not be in there, or similarly his dazzling score for Temple of Doom.
