Filoni said it’s a couple of things that make Palpatine interested in Ezra. “One of them is Ezra’s kind of persistent ability to survive. It would arch your eyebrow. I don’t know that it’s so specifically on Ezra to say, ‘I am after that guy.’ I think he’s probably got a target list of Jedi he is looking for and I think that this kid has become a persistent nuisance, you know?” he said. “And Ezra definitely has been causing problems, but there are other reasons why Palpatine’s gaze is directed that way that will be revealed.
She loves Kanan, obviously, in her own way and he loves her, and what they both like about each other in some ways is why they aren’t completely together. I like that they have this very mature adult relationship that deals with the world around them, or what they need to do for other people. But there is something…you might know the way these people feel inside as the audience, or you might hope that they feel this way that you do about them. It’s like seeing two friends of yours get together after a long time, and you’re like, ‘Oh, thank God!’
“Mortis is such a weird, otherworldly thing in The Clone Wars; so because it echoes around in my head, it’s always a possibility that it creeps in things that I do. I found some opportunities with things we were doing [on Rebels] and I said, ‘Well, we’ve got something I can use. Let’s do it.’ It just made sense and everybody was pretty excited about it when it was happening.”
One of my purposes was having wolves as the avatar for this Force type character was to give kids another positive image of a wolf. There are so many negatives around the wolf,” he explained. “So this is just another positive, I hope, representation of the animal while still respecting that there is a duality there, as all things in nature have.
Filoni had this to say to Anthony Breznican over at EW.
I felt like it was important to give this last trailer an overall perspective of what this kid had come from and what he had been learning,” Filoni tells EW. “I like that line that line that says, ‘You’ve never been like anyone else…’
And finally Germain Lussier at io9 got a chance to speak with Dave Filoni too.
I hope [fans are] excited to tune in and see where this all goes. I hope [the trailer] really whets their appetite and anticipation. I hope some of them watch it and are able to say to their friends “See! I told you this is where it’s going.” I hope some of them are like “Wow! I never thought that they would go to that place.
