Star Wars News Network present a hot rumour, that the Benioff and Weiss project will take us back, further than The Phantom Menace deep into the ancient history of the Star Wars story to the era of the Old Republic.

Their sources told them the following.

“…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones‘ style audience.”

As always, until it’s been confirmed then it’s just a rumour, but a trip to the glory days of the Republic could open up the Star Wars story to some enormous, epic stories which we know from their years on Game of Thrones the duo are more than capable of delivering.
