BEWARE SPOILERS: Just like with the previous Disney Plus series, we at Fantha Tracks will be offering our own episode guide for your entertainment! Here we will post every reference, Easter egg, everything named and unnamed per episode and some fun trivia in-between that we have spotted.
Official summary: A seemingly pleasant world will test our heroes like no other.
Trivia
This episode we learn a lot more about Rennod, who was mentioned briefly in the previous episode (‘Rennod’s Ghost’), starting with giving the Captain a first name: Tak. This is not the first time we have had an individual named Tak. Anthony Daniel’s character in Solo was named Tak, and we have an Ewok named Tak, mentioned once in the classic Ewoks cartoon.
Jedi or not, Jod keeps repeating Jedi teachings with the no attachments rule and Qui-Gon’s line from The Phantom Menace: “your focus determines your reality,” and again uses the Force multiple times in the episode.
They travel to Lanupa, a resort world also known as The Demon’s Rest and Battle World. Worlds with multiple names is also something that has happened before with Korriban/Moraband/Pesegam and Dac/Mon Cala.
Battle World was also a Marvel comic crossover event, which has appeared in other Marvel media and may be the inspiration for future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
Talking about worlds and systems, the Bratric System is completely new…if it is not just another of Jod’s lies that he makes up on the spot.
Resort worlds, or worlds with a high focus on tourism have existed before (Telerath being an example), but have not been seen this well before in live-action. Yes Cloud City’s reputation also fits, as does Canto Bight, but in that case we mostly see the casino rather than a hotel with facilities.
They are greeted by a woman that the closed captions refer to as Hotelier. For some reason, is there more to her story?, she is not given a name or even an actress credit in the end credits.
Her guards are dressed similarly to the Rebel Honor Guards as seen on Yavin Four in A New Hope.
They all get a necklace from what we assume are flower pops, much like the Hawai’i tradition of giving a lei as a token of welcome or farewell.
Droids being used as weapons in the past should be obvious for any Star Wars fans, besides the battle droids of the Clone Wars and the IG-assassin droids there are plenty of other examples.
The InterGalactic Banking Clan was seen most prominently in Attack Of The Clones, with chairman San Hill, but also featured in an important story arc of The Clone Wars in which we visit the main headquarters at Scipio. Scipio also gets mentioned later in the episode.
Well-known alien species seen enjoying the resort include: a Bith, an Ithorian, a male and female Muun (most likely delegates of the Banking Clan) and a Mon Calamari, which makes sense for this aquatic species to enjoy the spa and baths.
Professor Umiam Gorelox of Scipio is a new character.
Dash Zentin is another one of those fake names that Jod seems to collect. However the first name of Dash has been used before. Of course we are talking then about Dash Rendar from Shadows Of The Empire.
Later in the episode we hear yet another new name: Jodwick Zank.
Pokkit is most likely a Czerialan, a species introduced in Solo which resemble humans but with a higher forehead and white tufts of hair.
Low-rent Guild jobs with pucks of course reference the famous Bounty Hunters Guild.
The attendant with a plate of food is a Troglof (introduced in The Last Jedi), and of course we all recognize the species he brings the food (which includes a Meiloorun fruit) to.
Those carvings near the mud bath are old-style Ralph McQuarrie glyphs that have popped up before.
Cthallops is a new character and a new species design.
In case younger readers come across this article…we will also not explain what a concubine is….
While we do not know who the lightsaber belongs to, the gold trimming on it suggests once again that it came from the High Republic-era.
“’Tis the captain’s log”. Yes, pirate captains kept records, but this phrasing is a reference to Star Trek that often opened with “Captain’s Log, Stardate…”.
And while the mystery of At Attin is slowly unravelling, we are introduced to a new puzzle: the true identity of Captain Kat Rennod. While we have heard him, the hologram was probably intentionally distorted. The End Credits does list a performance artist for the role, Colin Follenweider, but not the voice actor, which only adds to the mystery.
