If you missed it at Celebration Japan then the stars have just aligned, as the vinyl Japanese Editions of the A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back original soundtracks are available on the Japanese Disney Music Emporium website. ¥7,000 including tax (but not postage), if you missed these then you can dive on them now.

(Episode IV: A New Hope), directed by George Lucas and released in the US in 1977 (and Japan in 1978). Composer John Williams won an Academy Award for Best Original Score for this work. He created many of the themes that shaped the Star Wars saga, including the Star Wars Theme, Force Theme, and Leia’s Theme. The “Bar Band” is also from this film. The soundtrack was remastered by Shawn Murphy and Skywalker Sound from the 1977 soundtrack, using the 192kHz/24-bit master released in 2018.

Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (directed by Irvin Kershner), released in Japan in June 1980. The music was composed by John Williams. This film features the debut of “Darth Vader’s March” (Imperial March) and “Yoda’s Theme.” It’s packed with classics like “Asteroid Field,” “Han Solo and the Princess,” and “The Devil’s Tree.” The soundtrack was remastered by Shawn Murphy and Skywalker Sound from the 1980 soundtrack, using the 192kHz/24-bit master released in 2018.
