Plans for a new London based film studio, previously linked to production of Star Wars film and TV projects have finally been given approval after numerous delays.

Based in the London borough of Barking & Dagenham, Lucasfilm were once linked to the facility as we reported in August of 2019.  Lucasfilm even created a company for use during productions called BARKING LION PRODUCTIONS (UK) LIMITED.  A play on the name of the region in London in which the studio is to be based.

The site the studio will sit on was used on Marvel blockbusters Doctor Strange and Black Widow, BBC TV series Luther and Channel 4 series Humans (as a location), and I understand Lucasfilm also used the location as part of their stormtrooper boot camp training during the filming of the sequel trilogy.

The BBC reports:

Plans for new Hollywood-style film studios in Dagenham, east London, have been approved by councillors.

The £110 million proposals include sound stages and workshops on a 22-acre former pharmaceutical factory site at London East Business and Technical Park, on Yewtree Avenue.

The project is expected to create 1,200 jobs.

The new studio will feature buildings to be used as production offices, hair and makeup or dressing rooms, as well as two workshops for set construction and green roofs.

It came nine months after the project’s original backer, Pacifica Ventures, which designed the studios where Breaking Bad was made, pulled out.

Be First, the regeneration team behind developments in Dagenham have produced the following video which shows what the final studio will look like:
