Chapter 8 – The Creeping Fear
Official summary: A hasty escape plan proves dangerous, while an isolated Maul regroups.
Trivia
A.J LoCascio’s Commando is once again the Mandalorian heard in this episode, making it most likely that the one we heard in all three of the episodes so far, was him and the same character.
Over the chapter title card we hear Darth Sidious laughing.
This episode introduces a couple new vehicles that we hope to get more details, like a proper name and make, for like Rheena’s ship and the speeder that Devon tries to steal.
The speederbikes sound effects are those heard before in Return of The Jedi.
During Maul’s visions of the past we see previous new events combined with events from The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars. Savage discovering Maul on Lotho Minor was seen in 4×21 “Brothers” and Savage’s death from 5×16 “The Lawless”.
These visions also feature Witwer doing not just Maul’s voice, but also doing the voice of Sidious and young Savage as well. Through archive sound being reused we have Ewan McGregor and Clancy Brown as Obi-Wan and Savage.
Also, throughout the episode there is a parallel regarding parenthood and how Maul and Lawson differ. We see Maul dealing with how his father figure Sidious discarded and tortured him despite him sacrificing everything for him, while we see Lawson willing to sacrifice himself by turning himself in to save his son from Imperial captivity.
The three bullies, or as referred to in the end credits as Alien Mechanic, Bully Alien #1 and Bully Alien #2, are all three voiced by Dee Bradley Baker and are inspired by the Pharoh Gang from American Graffiti.
Two-Boots tossing the blaster away with a disapproving headshake makes us think that he would also consider them to be uncivilized.
An elevator with its roof partially cut out is something we saw before in Revenge Of The Sith.
Looti is contacted by Dryden Vos from Crimson Dawn. Now we all know where this is heading, but Crimson Dawn was seen to be a part of Maul’s Shadow Collective as one of the groups that joined in later. We even saw a hologram of Dryden receiving orders from Maul in The Clone Wars episode “The Phantom Apprentice“.
