Star Wars, a ground-breaking, movie making production, and as such, demanded much of the component technologies available. In many cases however, these technologies were not capable of attaining the high quality values desired.
George Lucas and his team, unlike Director Krennic, never choked on their aspirations. Accepting no less than absolute production perfection. Barriers would be met head on, tweaked and improved, literally pushing the envelope.
These expectations of excellence gave rise to several in house production entities such as Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm Animation, LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, THX, Skywalker Sound, each synonymous with high quality standards, would grow far beyond their organic Star Wars beginnings, influencing production across the film industry.
It was not only the production companies which made their transitions from Star Wars to the wider film industry, people made similar journeys too. John Knoll, of Industrial Light & Magic, had worked within the film industry as a motion control camera operator until his time working with George Lucas on Willow. Their collaboration resumed, when, as a visually creative force, Knoll joined the Star Wars prequel production team.
Knoll has provided his visual effects expertise to other films and franchises such as Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and Avatar amongst others.
Echoing his George Lucas and Star Wars connections, John Knoll also continues to strive towards the highest of quality standards, culminating in his invention of the Knoll Light Factory, a lens flare generating software inspired by his work at Industrial Light & Magic.
However, it’s likely you have crossed paths with John Knoll before his work with Star Wars and award winning recognition. Along with his brother Tom, John Knoll created the world leading image software Adobe Photoshop.
Thanks to the brothers Knoll, we have access to software which empowers users to simply edit photos or become really creative.
What better way to celebrate a John Knoll, Adobe Photoshop and Star Wars fusion, than creating some fun Star Wars influenced pictures.
