Official summary: On Coruscant, former Imperials find amnesty in the New Republic.

Trivia

Din Djarin collects some water in a vial as proof that he has been there. Ironically, this is something that I myself do a lot on my filming location travels, but with sand rather then water. Other filming location enthusiasts tend to do it as well.

It has been awhile since we saw TIE Interceptors in action. When it comes to live-action they were only seen in Return Of The Jedi, but also appeared in Rebels in animated form back in 2017.

While the Kom’rk-class fighter has been seen many times before, it never was seen in a dogfight. So the only details about the weapons that we knew about came from sourcebooks, till this episode. The yellow colored lasers are also a color that we have not seen before.

Various returning slang through the episode include: Scug, mudscuffers and poodoo.

When Din speaks about Bo-Katan hijacking their ships, he of course refers to the hijack that he was a part of in Chapter 11: The Heiress.

Doctor Pershing speaks at the Galaxies Opera House from Revenge Of The Sith. This time we see the stage and lower seating area, rather than Palpatine’s private box in the upper levels.

The Amnesty Program is a parallel to Nazi scientists getting a pardon and recruited by the American government in an effort to win the Space Race.

Dr. Pershing speaks about Palpatine, his needs for cloning and all that Pershing discovered. This all bridges the gap even more between The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, this series and the Sequels.

As well as the Mon Calamari, a couple of new aliens appear in the background during the Galaxies Opera House scenes.

The man who cannot keep track of which government is in place echoes the old mentality that Core Worlds have lost their touch with the rest of the galaxy. Also this echoes statements made in The Last Jedi about the rich never suffering during wars.

The repulsorcraft that Dr. Pershing uses appears to be a newer model in the same line as the EasyRide passenger airspeeders (from the Prequels) and the ComfortRide Passenger Airspeeder (from The Clone Wars).

The taxi droid driver has a head based on old concept art of C-3PO as made by Ralph McQuarrie. The body is that of a protocol droid, and this look is a departure of the pit droids used as taxi droids in the LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga game.

The taxi droid was voiced by Dylan Firshein, who was an editor on Solo, The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett.

The taxi droid mentions a whole bunch of interesting locations, a flower and a creature from Legends:

Skydome Botanical Gardens from the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Volume 1: Jedi Search

Mysess blossoms from Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees

The Galactic Museum from Han Solo and the Lost Legacy (as Imperial Museum) and Tales of the Jedi – The Freedon Nadd Uprising, but was also seen in recent canon within the Star Wars (2020) comic series.

Holographic Museum Of Extinct Animals, known as Holographic Zoo of Extinct Animals, from the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Volume 2: Dark Apprentice and pictured in the comic Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: Last Stand on Ord Mantell.

The Mantabog of Malastare is from Wizards of the Coast’s Coruscant and the Core Worlds guidebook.

Wild stories abound on what happened to Moff Gideon, M40 thinks he is hooked to a mind flayer. Mind flayers were mentioned before in Chapter 8: Redemption and are not a reference to Stranger Thing’s Mind Flayer.

The information file that Dr. Pershing is looking at mentions that Coruscant is one of only a handful of city planets. While he switches it off before more examples can be mentioned other known ecumenopoleis include: Hosnian Prime (The Force Awakens), Taris (Knights of the Old Republic), Denon (Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary), Eufornis Major (Servants of the Empire: Rebel in the Ranks & Andor), Empress Teta (Tales Of The Jedi) and, perhaps the most well-known one, Nar Shaddaa.

Coruscant is indeed not the exact center of the galaxy as the datapad says. That would be The Galactic Centre, a super-massive black hole located within the Deep Core.

Another deep cut comes with the mention of Benduday and Taungsday. In the Star Wars galaxy a standard week holds five days: Primeday, Centaxday, Taungsday, Zhellday, and Benduday. Primeday and Centaxday are named after Coruscant’s star (Coruscant Prime) and moon (Centax-1), with the other being named after the original species of Coruscant (Zhell and Taung) and the Bendu monks. While this sounds like RPG information, it actually came from an Hyperspace exclusive article Dining At Dex’s and was brought back into canon by Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon.

Elia Kane takes Pershing to see the sights of Coruscant, including Monument Plaza. The novel Aftermath retconned the plaza seen in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi to be Monument Plaza, despite it looking somewhat different then what we saw in The Clone Wars. This time the live-action footage does resembles the look as established by The Clone Wars.

Familiar sights here include: Rodians, an Ishi Tib, a PK-series worker droid on stilts (PK droids were first seen in The Phantom Menace), an Ithorian seller, a Quarren, a blue Twi’lek male, and of course Umate, with Elia Kane telling lore about the mountain top dating back to The Illustrated Star Wars Universe.

Photon fizzles are also mentioned, which is a fizzy, fruity cocktail introduced in the Droids cartoon. They can be ordered in Galaxy’s Edge.

While the music is different, it is yet again a happy fanfare that introduces us to Monument Plaza, just like the Shadows of the Empire soundtrack did. The track ‘Imperial City’ was written by Joel McNeely in a way that envisions a visitor arriving in space above Coruscant and descending down on the planet and seeing more and more of its sights. Around 4:33 the visitor has arrived at Monument Plaza where a welcoming fanfare plays.

The Monument Plaza fanfare slowly transitions into a more happier fanfare-like version of the Resistance March from the Sequels. This is best heard right before Pershing asks what the mountain peak is, but this transition starts a bit before that when they discuss continuing his research despite it being against New Republic law.

Elia Kane mentions being trained on Coruscant at the academy. This is the Royal Imperial Academy, that was first mentioned in the comic Kallus’ Hunt from Star Wars Rebels Magazine. It has since appeared in other sources, most notably the novels Leia, Princess of Alderaan, Battlefront II: Inferno Squad and Lost Stars. In the latter’s manga edition the Academy was first time pictured as well.

Considering the books we have had dealing with the aftermath of the end of the war, you would think that the Coruscant Accords have been mentioned before. They are new to this episode, but are a direct result of the Galactic Concordance, the peace treaty between the Empire and the New Republic.

A C-1023 request is new.

If the Senate building icon did not gave it away, the Aurebesh on the sign of the train station says that Dr. Pershing and Elia Kane are at Federal Station, with Executive Building and Monument Park mentioned below. Executive Building is probably the big building with the New Republic banner where Pershing has his psychological tests.

Aliens at the station include an orange Rodian, a Mimbanese and a Frigosian.

Not subtitled is the Ewokese announcement that you hear at the train station. The text goes a bit like this, but spelling may vary slightly: Chudoo ick ick bic ick gupta toto, achi-bic. Maricchi ni achi. Gunda.

This is an exact copy from the Ewokese announcements heard while standing in the queue for Star Tours.

The alien Pershing looks at while getting onboard the train is a Bufopel, first seen in The Last Jedi

This episode is also the first time we hear the name of Katy O’Brian’s character: Elia Kane. She appeared previously in Chapters 12, 14, 15 and 16.

Also mentioned for the first time is the first name of Dr. Pershing: Penn.

The ship supporting the troopers capturing Pershing is a LAAT/le patrol gunship, also known as the Republic/Empire police gunship. They debuted in The Clone Wars, where seen in The Bad Batch and Rebels and make their first live-action appearance now. Their cockpit window seems to have changed somewhat from the animated version however.

Pershing tells the Mon Calamari doctor it was a trap, with the doctor not bothering to be impressed by that, is a nice joke on Admiral Ackbar’s famous line.
