TODAY IN STAR WARS HISTORY: 12/2/1977

Steven Spielberg puts out a full page ad in Variety congratulating George Lucas when Star Wars surpasses Jaws at the box office. This would be a continuing tradition as Lucas, Spielberg, James Cameron, would send congratulatory messages in the trades when their films are surpassed. A very classy move.
