Kenobi screenwriter Hossein Amini has been talking about the forthcoming Kenobi Disney Plus series, and while layout out the era and when the show will be shooting, talk turned to the prior incarnation of the project, when it was set to be a Star Wars Story. Amini confirmed the long-standing rumour, that director Stephen Daldry was indeed going to direct the big screen Kenobi movie which we first confirmed back in early 2018.

“I was initially contacted by the original director for the film version, Stephen Daldry and chatted with him. It was more of a conversation than a pitch, I am incredibly gracious about it. They didn’t make it feel like an audition.”

“There is so much going on between episode 3 and 4 that hasn’t been explored. The idea of being able to go into a character journey plus the politics and plus all the vastness of the Empire and what’s going on is exciting. Just because it feels like a proper period of history and sometimes that is hard to do in two hours.”

There’s a lot to take away from this. Shooting date, confirmation that the film originally to be directed by Stephen Daldry and the series focusing on Kenobi but also galactic events. Perhaps the show won’t be narrowly focused on Obi-Wan but open the scope to the wider era between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
