Without a love interest like his kid sister Leia, a wife and family like his pal Chewbacca, a counterpart like his droids Artoo and Threepio (or even a droid like his buddy Lando Calrissian), there wasn’t much canonical action for Luke Skywalker, which over the years led some members of the fandom to wonder whether the character was gay. The Legends version of Luke eventually married 90’s favourite Mara Jade, but either way the man who has played him for almost half a century – Mark Hamill – believes there’s no wrong answer to the question.

“So if you want him to be gay, he is. If you don’t want him to be, he’s not. It’s whatever you want.”
