Where in the galaxy are the worlds of The Rise of Skywalker?

A story 42 years in the making – by total coincidence the same amount of years the Aki-Aki Festival of the Ancestors is held on Pasaana – has come to an end. Back in 2015, writing over at StarWars.com, I looked at the worlds of The Force Awakens and in 2016 the planets of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In April 2018 here on Fantha Tracks I continued the series with a look at the locations of The Last Jedi and soon after in July 2018, the worlds of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Here, we assume the galactic traveler will take the major hyperspace lanes and where possible, smugglers routes and leaps into the unknown (all while using a two-dimensional map). Planetary locations are approximate, taken from available information, gazetteers, the astrogation charts of L3-37 and smugglers maps.

From the forbidden deserts of Pasaana to icy streets of Kijimi, the darkness of Exegol to the roiling seas of Kef Bir let’s dive into our starfighters, freighters and capital ships and head into the cosmos to find the worlds of The Rise of Skywalker.

Mustafar
Mustafar system, Altravis sector, Outer Rim Territories

Situated just off the galaxy-spanning Hydian Way, Mustafar is a location of dark legend. The world where Darth Vader fell to the blade of Obi-Wan Kenobi, this fractured world, spilling lava through its shattered crust, later became the base of Vader, where he served the Emperor from his imposing castle.

Sat in the Altravis sector of the Outer Rim, Mustafar lay the other side of the Hydian to Polis Massa, south of the Greater Javin and near to the other major hyperspace lanes, the Corellian Trade Spine to the west and the Rimma Trade Route to the east. Operating from here, Vader would have easily been able to traverse the galaxy to most key locations.

Exegol
The Unknown Regions

Head north from Mustafar along the Corellian Trade Spine to Isde Naha onwards to Gerrenthum. From there, cut along the Lutrillian Cross hyperlane to Lutrillia. Then head north past Lorta and Riflor to Cerea and out of the Mid Rim to the Endor system.

There, drop onto the Shiritoku Way to Bakura in Wild Space and pause, because that’s where the simple astronavigation ends and you’re in the hands of lady luck, questionable starmaps and hearsay. Point the bow of your ship north towards Zonama Sekot in the Unknown Regions, passing Ahch-To (though you probably wouldn’t know that), Rakata Prime, the ice-cold world of Csilla and then to Exegol.

Here, the forces of the sith spent an entire generation developing a vast fleet, built to take the galaxy and bring it under sith rule once and for all. A planet of barren rock and desert flats, it sits alone with no moon for company, home only to sith legions and First Order forces.

Sinta
Sinta system, Maerdocian sector, Mid Rim

Steel yourself for a long ride as our next location is literally halfway across the galaxy. Strike out from Exegol and head east, through the depths of the Unknown Regions to Jedha, the Pilgrim Moon located in the Jedha system of the Terrabe sector of the Mid Rim.  Aim east towards Coruscant, cutting through the Expansion, the Colonies, the Inner Rim and the Core to the capital.

From there, pick up the Perlemian Trade Route north east towards Brentaal and head south east along the Hydian Way to Exodeen in the Colonies. There, pick up the Nanth’ri Trade Route all the way east to Nanth’ri in the Mid Rim and head south past Nixor to Daalang. Drop south west onto the Gamor Run and spike off west to the icy outpost known as the Sinta Glacier.

It’s here that the Resistance learn of a high-ranking First Order mole, but are forced to beat a hasty retreat through the Crystal Chaos of Cardovite, the Mirror-Spires of Ivexia and the Megafauna Chasm of the Hyphonic Nebula before heading north to their next location.

Ajan Kloss
Cademimu sector, Outer Rim Territories

From Sinta we head north-east, aiming for Daalang and the Trax Tube hyperspace lane that winds north past Nanth’ri, Ugo’cor and Deysum to Randon. There, track west on the Randon Run, past Kashyyyk up to Lantilles.

Hop onto the Perlemian south west to Gizer, where there are no obvious hyper lanes and skirt the border between the Mid Rim and the Expansion to Contruum where you will connect onto the Vaathkree Trade Corridor which will wind you through the Expansion, into the Inner Rim and back out to the Expansion and Corsin.

Tack north-east on the Hydian Way up to Bandomeer just south west of the Gordian Reach and pick up the Braxant Run which cuts west across the Outer Rim until you reach Ketaris. From there you’re on your own, hopefully with the assistance of astrogation charts given you by the Resistance as you head south west towards the jungle world of Ajan Kloss.

Pasaana
Ombakond sector, Expansion Region

From Ajan Kloss to Pasaana you would largely need to retrace your steps back to Sinta and further south down the Gamor Run to Pasaana, but let’s assume you’re attempting to evade capture and take a different route. Head south west from Ajan Kloss, aiming for Ord Cantrell and on to Orinda on the Entralla Routh in the Mid Rim. Continue south to Ord Mantell in the Bright Jewel sector and then head south west to Dorin on the Celanon Spur hyperlane.

Pause, reset then aim south east on the Namadii Corridor all the way to Palanhi in the Colonies and head east on the Shwuy Exchange to Uviuy Exen. Once again you’re on the Hydian Way, so head south east past Brentaal, Skako and Exodeen all the way to Denon where you pick up the Corellian Run south eats to Gamor. There, peel off onto the Gamor Run past Aridus until you drop off the Gamor and head towards the desert world of Pasaana in the Expansion.

Kijimi
Bryx sector, Mid Rim

Next stop the icy world of Kijimi. Jump back onto the Gamor Run and head north east towards Daalang where you will pick up the Rorak – Daalang hyperlane to Rorak.

Head north along the Shag Pabol to Nal Hutta, in the Y’Toub system of the Mid Rim. Here you are in the dangerous region of Hutt Space so travel north with caution along the Pabol Hutta to Sleheyron, cutting across the Pabol Sleheyron to Klatooine.

From there it’s a short hop to Boonta where you pick up the Lesser Lantillian Route and drop off, heading north to Kijimi.

Kef Bir
Endor system, Moddell sector, Outer Rim Territories

Another mammoth journey lies ahead as you leave Kijimi and head south back to the Lesser Lantillian Route and aim towards Charos where you pick up the Great Kashyyyk Branch down to Kashyyyk.

Here, you have a number of options, taking you either  south east down through the Randon Run to Randon and the Trax Tube back to Daalang and the Gamor Run south, working clockwise round the Outer Rim or staying on the Great Kashyyyk Branch down to Zeltros.

There, steer towards Commenor and take the Quellor Run to Quellor. Head Corewards to Exodeen and cut across the major lanes into the Core Worlds to Corellia where we pick up the Corellian Trade Spine. Head south west, cutting across the Rimma Trade Route at Yag’Dhul down to Kinyen in the Expansion Region.

Here, aim west on the Great Gran Run all the way to its end at Cerea and on through the Moddell sector to the Endor system and Kef Bir, one of the nine moons of Endor.

Ahch-To
Ahch-To system, Unknown Regions

Head west from Endor along the Shiritoku Way into the Shritoku Spur to Bakura, and then hold your breath and start praying to whatever celestial deities you might worship as you leave all commonly recognised hyperspace lanes and aim north west, clockwise through Wild Space until you reach the very edge of the galaxy and the legendary world of Ahch-To, home of the first Jedi Temple where Luke Skywalker ended his days in seclusion.

Bespin
Bespin system, Anoat sector, Outer Rim Territories

As the First Order and the Final Order tasted the bitter ashes of defeat at Exegol, the galaxy celebrated and that takes us back south east through Wild Space, to Bakura and the Shiritoku Way hyper lane all the way to Cerea in the Mid Rim.

Take the Cerean Reach hyper Lane down to Lorta and pick up the lane down to Lutrillia in the Outer Rim, on the Lutrillian Cross hyper lane. Head east to Gerrenthum on the Corellian Trade Spine and down to the Anoat system and the Tibanna laced clouds of Bespin and Cloud City.

Endor
Endor system, Moddell sector, Outer Rim Territories

We’re bouncing around the southern Outer Rim once again as we retrace our route, back along the Corellian Trade Spine to Gerenthum, east to Lutrillia on the Lutrillian Cross, wind north west to Cerea and then back along the Shiritoku Cross, heading out of the Mid Rim and into the Outer Rim to the Endor System and the forest moon, the location of the ground victory against the Empire during the Battle of Endor.

Tatooine
Tatoo system, Arkanis sector, Outer Rim Territories

Our final stop on our 42 year journey as we blast off from Endor, back along the Shiritoku Way to Cerea, picking up the Great Gran Run and blasting past Chalcedon, Takodana and into the Mid Rim where you hop north east onto the Corellian Run at Kinyen and up to Yag’Dhul, connecting to the Rimma Trade South south east to Wroona and splitting off onto the Harrin Trade Corridor down to Kira.

There take the Enarc Run south to Naboo in the Chommell sector of the Mid Rim – you’re now directly underneath the globular cluster of the Sedapard Cluster – and step across to Enarc, heading east along the Triellus Run, past Farstine, Llanic and Savareen across the Corellian Run into the Arkanis sector and the Tattoo system where we find our end point, Tatooine.
