The Blocks LEGO Star Wars special is out now, bringing all the magic of the galaxy far, far away – both historical and what’s to come – to readers everywhere, and here we get a look inside this very special and well-timed released packed with interviews, insights, and plenty more besides. Stay tuned to Fantha Tracks Radio as we’ll be chatting with Blocks editor Graham Hancock very soon.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is about to bring the saga back to the big screen in epic fashion, so Blocks is marking the occasion with a LEGO Star Wars special edition one-off magazine. Amazing builds inspired by The Mandalorian, interviews with Star Wars talent and LEGO designers, instructions for iconic mini builds from the saga, plus beautiful imagery… this is the Way.
The Blocks LEGO Star Wars special is available now at blocksmag.com.
To celebrate the return of the saga to the big screen, this special magazine collects some of the best LEGO Star Wars content from past issues of Blocks magazine.
There is one all-new feature – an exclusive interview with Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano and founder of Her Universe. She discusses landing the role of a lifetime, what it was like to see the character evolve through the years and reveals how she ended up on stage in a dress made of 10,000 LEGO bricks.
Ashley is not the only Star Wars talent who can talk bricks though – C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels has thoughts on the LEGO galaxy, as well as tales from being the only actor to have been involved in every theatrical Star Wars movie released so far. The interview is illustrated with LEGO vignettes that depict the droid’s role in each episodic movie.
Given that Maul – Shadow Lord is bringing the iconic villain back, it’s the perfect moment to get Sam Witwer’s perspective on how the character evolves through the years and why Star Wars should always have something to say.
As great as Star Wars actors are to talk to, there is only one person who can get deep into the LEGO side of things – the Jedi Master of the brick, Jens Kronvold Frederiksen. The Design Director has been involved in the theme since the very beginning and talks about how it began, how it has changed over time and why he loves working on this special collaboration.
Beyond the big overview from Jens, designers César Soares, Jackson Hughes, Lucy Bilgin, Martin Fink and Madison O’Neil discuss working on specific models and minifigures, getting into the nerdy details that LEGO fans love to know more about.
All of this is bound to spark your creativity and Blocks has impressive builds capturing scenes from The Mandalorian to inspire you. See iconic shots rendered in the brick, including the moment when Din Djarin meets Grogu and the epic showdown in Moff Gideon’s cavernous underground base.
If your plans are not quite as grand as an Imperial warlord’s though, there are Quick Build instructions for mini models and parts lists – so you can order the bricks, put them together and have a fun little starfighter or character on your desk to distract you during Zoom calls.
A fan who has taken their love of building to the next level is LEGO Masters Australia judge, Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught. He reveals how his team came up with a new face technique for characters when they were developing LEGO Star Wars: The Exhibition, a celebration of the entire saga that includes a giant DUPLO AT-AT that is big enough to walk underneath.
No exploration of the collaboration would be complete without turning to the video games, so Game Director Andrew Holt, Art Director Josh Pickering Pick and Level Director Mike Consalvey explain how they channelled the classic formula in epic fashion to create LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga together.
That’s just some of what you’ll find within this 132-page special magazine – it also includes the Jedi Bob story with actor and comedian Bobby Moynihan, scenes from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story recreated in LEGO elements and the LEGO Star Wars timeline, from 1999 to present.
