Kieron Gillen to step away from Star Wars after #67

It’s been quite the stint, with runs on Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra and the main Star Wars title but by the final page of issue 67 of Star Wars, Kieron Gillen will be stepping away from the GFFA….for the time being, anyway.

I have three issues left to write in ‘The Scourging of Shu-Torun.’ That’s issue 67, the end of my story, and I’ll be off. No present plans to write anything else in Star Wars – I suspect I’ve said all I’ve wanted to about these characters in comics. At least in this period, anyway.

Kieron notably never says never – ‘I suspect I’ve said all I’ve wanted to about these characters in comics‘ could mean he’s done all he can with these characters in this era, or he’s done all he can with these characters in comics. He’s a writer, perhaps we have a Kieron Gillen novel coming our way?

Be sure to check out Episode 14 of Making Tracks. Matt Booker caught up with Kieron at New York Comic Con where he hinted back in October 2018 that his time on Star Wars was likely nearing its end.

Either way, he’s been a breath of fresh air giving us fascinating new characters, stories and angles on a four decade old franchise. Let’s hope that somewhere down the line he graces the galaxy once again.
