May the 4th, better known as Star Wars Day, has become a cultural force all its own, celebrated around the world in all kinds of ways. Ballparks roll out themed games, retailers roll out new product drops and special sales, communities host special events, and costuming groups turn up with the same dependable presence that ghosts and ghouls do during Halloween. And in Fort Wayne, Indiana, that celebration is taking a romantic twist.

According to local outlet WFFT, the Fort Wayne City Clerk’s Office will offer free wedding ceremonies on Monday, May 4, giving couples a chance to tie the knot on one of the most beloved dates on the fan calendar.

Adding to the occasion, members of the Northern Darkness Garrison, Northern Indiana’s Star Wars costuming group within The 501st Legion, will be on hand during the event. Appointments will be scheduled in 20 minute increments on a first come, first served basis, with ceremonies taking place from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

While the ceremony itself is free, couples must first obtain a valid Indiana marriage license through the Allen County Clerk of the Courts, which carries a $25 fee.

In a galaxy that has already given us wedding vows between a Jedi and a queen, and a princess and a scoundrel, here’s wishing this year’s Star Wars Day couples a wonderful wedding day. They will be in very good company indeed.
