Nothing official has been posted yet, so treat this very much as a rumour, but Puck are reporting that the end of 2025 might see the end of Kathleen Kennedy‘s 13 year tenure as Chairman of Lucasfilm. Joining the Lucasfilm family at the tail end of the George Lucas era as co-chair of Lucasfilm, Honorary Fantha Tracker Kennedy steered the starcruiser towards the Sequel Trilogy and a trio of billion dollar grossing movies (including the fifth highest grossing film in movie history, The Force Awakens) and a fourth billion dollar grosser in Rogue One. Add to that the rise of the Disney Plus era, Galaxy’s Edge, the continuation and expansion of animation and plenty more besides and her time in the big chair has been very productive indeed.
After more than a decade in a galaxy far, far away, Kathleen Kennedy is charting a course toward retirement. The Lucasfilm boss has told associates she plans to retire by the end of 2025, Puck reported Monday night.
Reps for Kennedy and Lucasfilm were not immediately available for comment.
Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as co-chair alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas, and a few months later took the reins after Disney paid $4 billion for the company and Lucas exited.
Who could succeed her, if she is indeed moving to pastures new? Variety have posted today that a source close to Kennedy claims this is ‘pure speculation‘, and with The Mandalorian & Grogu coming our way next April and the second season of Ahsoka close to entering production, (not to mention the 50th anniversary of the saga in 2027) there are penty of reasons to stick around a little bit longer. We’ll be discussing this and much more besides on the next episode of Making Tracks, and be sure to check out our 217th episode tonight on Fantha Tracks Radio.
