We heard last year that the 50th anniversary re-release of the original 1977 Star Wars, in all its mid-70’s glory was returning to the big screen in February 2027 – and in IMAX to boot – and on 22nd May 2026 The Mandalorian and Grogu will be smashing onto IMAX screens around the world as the two Dins take the Clan of Two on a galactic big screen adventure for the first time, but the big news coming out of the latest IMAX investors presentation appears to confirm that 28th May 2027 will see the third Star Wars film in just over 12 months hit the format as Star Wars: Starfighter is set to go large.

The Mandalorian and Grogu shall enjoy a sizeable – and potentially lucrative – IMAX run from 22nd May through to 12th June when Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day takes over those screens, and while we don’t know how long the 50th re-release or Starfighter will have in the format, we do know it means that Star Wars is very much back in the blockbuster arena, sharing the stage with Kong, Godzilla, Shrek, Zelda, Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, Frozen and the MCU.
