For a Mandalorian to remove their helmet – especially one with the beliefs Din Djarin holds – is a huge deal, and as a consequence the actor behind the character Pedro Pascal is equally as determined for the weight of the moment to be honoured, and the latest issue of Empire Magazine out this week sees Pascal and his director Jon Favreau discuss this vital action as the helmet is indeed removed in May 22nd’s The Mandalorian and Grogu.
For Pascal himself, the motivations for Din being unmasked felt just right. He learned he’d be showing his face on a call with Favreau, where the director gave him a beat-by-beat breakdown of the film’s narrative. “When we got to that part, all I can say is that it made perfect sense, and it was what I was hoping would be the reason,” the actor enthuses. “If I were to pitch something, I would say, ‘The only thing that makes sense is…’ And that’s exactly it. He filled that blank. I said immediately, ‘Jon, that’s exactly what I was hoping to hear!’” This is the way.
